Miri Sheffer-Mossenson is an associate professor at the Department of Middle Eastern & African History at Tel Aviv University, and since December 2019 I am the Head of the Zvi Yazetz School of Historical Studies.
Sheffer-Mossenson combine two fields of historical research: the Ottoman Empire in the early modern era and Muslim medicines, health, and well-being. Her current research focuses on the management and standardization of medicine in the Ottoman Empire of the 16th-17th centuries. She explains how formal (and public) and informal (and private) mechanisms of management by people with medical knowledge and laypersons alike have shaped a standard of legitimate medical practice in the Turkish- and Arabic-speaking Ottoman Empire in the early modern.
The medical issue has led her to engage in health, including in the context of environment, environment and quality of life.
